Rescue Runts
I remember finding a tiny kitten that had been abandoned by its mother when I was a kid. She had been the runt of the litter and I wanted to keep her and take care of her. Nobody thought the kitten would live, she was so frail and tiny, but I fed her with an eyedropper, day and night and she lived to be sixteen years old. There is a new toy coming out summer of 2018 that allows your child to “rescue” a stray puppy or kitty and love it back to health. They are called Rescue Runts.
When They First Arrive
A Rescue Runt dog or cat will be in need of a lot of attention when your youngster first “rescues” it. Their fur will be matted and filled with (pretend) fleas. Their eyes will be weepy and their paws will be dirty. They are in sad shape but with aa bit of tender loving care by your child, they will be completely transformed.
The “fleas” can be removed with the provided tweezers and the soft cloth will wipe those tears from the eyes and dirt from their paws. This plus loving and cuddling will make the little pet all better more quickly.
Don’t Neglect Your New Pet
Brushing and petting will transform the little stray into a lovely pet. However, if days go by without any care and attention, their fur will go back to a matted mess again. This teaches children that pets need to be cared for daily, not just once in a while. Once they give their Rescue Runt some TLC again, it will transform once again into a clean and happy little puppy or kitten.
Conclusion
I think Rescue Runts are going to be a big hit when they first come out. It’s a great way to teach young children how to responsibly care for a pet, possibly as a step toward getting to care for a live rescue dog or cat.
